FAQs

How long does it take to complete GED classes and graduate?

This depends entirely on the student. Each student who enrolls in our program does so with their individual knowledge skillset and will work at their own pace. We strive to ensure all students are prepared to take the exam – no matter the length of times it takes to accomplish that. The more work each student puts into getting their education (studying, taking notes, asking questions, actively asking about your scores, etc.), the more they will get out of this program. It could take one semester, two semesters, even four or five semesters – it all depends on the effort and attitude that is put into learning.

Do I need to buy any books or supplies?

You will not need to buy any books! We have workbooks that you can take home and we will also share online resources with you throughout the entire semester. If online, you will need to have internet access and access to a computer. You will also need notebooks, binders and pencils/pens, and anything else that may help you study (index cards, sticky notes, etc.).

Can I be GED Ready in one subject but still be on TABE in another?

Yes, the TABE test tells us roughly how well you might do on the actual GED test. For example, you could meet the cut score in Reading (which will allow you to take the RLA GED Ready) and yet still need to take the TABE test for Math because you have not met the cut score in that subject.

If I pass a portion of the GED but I don’t graduate in the same semester will I have to retake it?

No, all your progress stays with you once you pass a subject.

How do I order my GED transcript?

GED transcripts can be ordered online through the GED website.

I want to study for the GED on my own. How do I do that?

Unsure if you need classes? Here is some information and tips about the GED and testing.

There are 4 subtests you must pass to obtain your GED (State of Florida High School Diploma from the Florida Department of Education):

  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science

NOTE: All sub-tests are twelfth grade level and consist of multiple-choice, short answer, extended response, and drag/drop answer formats. Individuals must have a valid email address to create a GED Account at GED.com. This will be your account forever so we suggest taking a picture of your email and password or writing it down in a safe place.

In the state of Florida, students 18 and above can schedule a test at any time through the GED portal. Students 16 and 17 years of age wishing to test require a legal parent or guardian to follow the required Florida Department of Education Age Wavier procedures.

We highly recommend paying and taking the Ready tests in your GED portal to ensure you are in fact ready. These tests do not count against you and you can study from these. Everyone must have a valid government photo ID (not picture) to present to test administrator in order to test.

If you find you are not succeeding on your own and need help, please join our program at the CF Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus!
